Weckerlin, Jean-Baptiste (29 November 1821, Guebwiller, Alsace; 20 May 1910, Trottberg) was an editor as well as a composer of music. He had a position in his father’s manufacturing firm, but he ran away to Paris to enter the Conservatoire there in 1844. He could not pass the examinations at this institution, however, and he found that he lacked either the skill or the imagination to compose for the theatre despite the success of his L’Organiste dans l’embarras at the Théâtre-Lyrique.
