LES PERCUSSIONS DE STRASBOURG (founded January 1961). Considered the first professional percussion ensemble in history, Les Percussions de Strasbourg , a sextet, was founded by Jean Batigne , timpanist and faculty respectively for the Strasbourg Opera and Conservatory, and Georges Van Gucht , faculty member of the Toulon Conservatory who is former timpanist with Strasbourg Radio and former faculty at the Lyon Conservatory.
