Archet frz. romagn. ‚Bogen‛. Der Name findet sich wohl zuerst in den Versen Colin Muset's: „J'alai o li el praelet, O tote la vièle et l'archet.” (12. Jh.) Bis dahin ist die Form arçon gebräuchlich.
