WELLS, WILLIAM (DICKIE). Jazz trombonist (10 June 1909 in Centerville, Tennessee). His family moved to Nashville, Tennessee, when he was a child and settled in Louisville, Kentucky, when he was ten years old. There he first became involved with music, playing baritone, then trombone with the Sunday School band of the Booker T. Washington Community Center and in a small jazz group.
