Sapienza (Sapiyentsa), Antonio (4–10–1755, Naples; 3–31–1829, P.). Italian cond., vocal pedagogue, and comp. Father of Antonio Sapienza (1794–1855). Was kapellmeister of the Imperial Theaters; also taught at the P. Theater Sch. from 1783–85 and, later, at the Smolny Institute. Works: op., incl. Mi-fa-sol (comic op., 1783).
