Fantoches

Fantoches (FR) Marionettes. Debussy's setting (1892, Fêtes galantes, first series, #2) for voice and piano of the 11th poem from Fêtes galantes (1869) by Verlaine. It is essentially the same as a version composed 10 years earlier. In line 11, Debussy changes the word langoureux (languorous) to amoureux (loving); and he adds the »la-las« that form the coquettish commentary. Neither change is in the earlier version.
