Sérénade

Sérénade (FR) Serenade. Debussy's setting (CA 1880) for voice and piano of the seventh poem from the »Caprices en Dizains à la manière de Clément Marot« section of Les Cariatides (1839 / 42) by Banville. Debussy inserts extravagant melismas on »Ah« between lines 7 and 8 of the poem, repeats the words »Arlequin chante,« and closes the song with another extravagant melismatic outburst. The song is dedicated to Mme. Vasnier.
