Anacréon chez Polycrate, was posted as an opera in three acts with music by Grétry and words by Guy. It had its first representation on 17 January 1797 and went on to enjoy great success. The spectators called for its creators at its premiere; it was staged at the Opéra every year between 1797 and 1821.
