Le Coq du village

Le Coq du village was billed as a comic ballet in one act with choreography by Maximilien Gardel. The ballet was based upon Favart’s comic opera bearing the same name, and it had its world premiere at the Opéra on 17 February 1787 with Mlle Guimard and Auguste Vestris heading the cast. The ballet was not well received, and it had to be withdrawn quietly after its third performance on 5 March 1787.
