Le Cid

Le Cid is an opera in four acts and ten tableaux based upon the poem of Guilhen de Castro and the tragi-comedy of the same title by Pierre Corneille . Its score was composed by Jules Massenet, and its libretto was written by the team of Louis Gallet, d’Ennery, and Edouard Blau. It had its world premiere at the Opéra on 30 November 1885 in a production by Pedro Gailhard with choreography for the divertissement established by Louis Mérante (see eighteenth-century volume for divertissement).
