Sallé, Marie (1707, Paris; 27 July 1756) had toured the provinces of France and had performed at the annual fairs in Paris during her childhood. She had also been to London as early as 1716 to dance at the Lincoln’s Inn Fields theatre, but none of these activities seemed unusual to her because she had been born into a theatrical family.
