Spontini, Gasparo Luigi Pacifico (14 November 1774, Majolati; 24 January 1851, Majolati), composer, was the second of five children born into a family of poor peasants living near Jesi. Like his three brothers, he was destined for the priesthood and placed under the care of his uncle Giuseppi Spontini, also a priest.
